We were notified about the Pan children by a Khmer pastor in Takeo province. He had been working with the family for many years. When Lynn was one year old, his father left. Their mother was left with caring for her elderly mother and her three children. Less than a year after the father left, their mother committed suicide.
For 6 years the boys were cared for by their older sister, now 21, and their elderly grandmother. The family struggled under extreme poverty. They were living in a small, thatch house with no electricity, clean water, and not enough food. The children could only attend the pagoda school when the family could somehow find the funds to send them.
After the pastor contacted us, we met with the grandmother and sister to discuss the future care of the boys. The grandmother knew that she was unable to provide the care that the boys needed and the sister was working as a field laborer for other people in the village many hours a day. They asked us to take the boys into Heritage House and care for them.
Somnang was 12 years old when he moved into our home, but was unable to read the Khmer alphabet . He is now in the first grade and struggling to catch up in school. He is a delight to be around and sets a very good example for the younger boys with his good attitude and eagerness to help out around the house.
Lynn was able to catch up in his studies last year and is now in 1st grade at Hope School. He is always laughing and teasing. Lynn brings joy to the house with his cheerful attitude and eagerness to help out.
Please pray for the Pan brothers as they grow in the knowledge of Jesus as their Savior and God as their Father.
